Here’s my confession — I spent the majority of the day thinking, shit I really need a new job asap.  No surprise considering I was dragging my butt to work today but then this little interaction happened with my boss’s direct report (who has previously rubbed me wrong and has made me wonder if she is secretly Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde) and I decided that my company must be on a whole different planet and I need to return to Earth asap.

She sends me an e-mail with the whole e-mail in the subject line which in itself is an annoying habit I wish people would stop.  I don’t know if this happens at other places but she’s one of the two people in my company who do it.

The e-mail says: Hi 1976remixed, please arrange a conference call for Bossman and Me with Person #1 and Person #2.  I am available all day. Thanks.

My first thought is umm okay your assistant can do it but whatever I don’t mind but I need more info. So I e-mail her back and ask:

Has person #1 provided their availability? Is person #2 at the the same company as person #1?  How long will you need?

I’m thinking all logical questions because I don’t recognize person #2’s name and I don’t want to call person #1 and ask something I should have known plus knowing how much time they need is a reasonable request, right?  Apparently not.

They are both at the same company, they are both available on Wednesday, they did not give me specific times. Please get specific times from them and match it to Bossman’s calendar. I have already given you my availability. thanks

I detected some attitude but it could have just been me — this is day #1 of my losing 30 pounds by Labor Day so maybe I am a little off in reading people because my comfort foods are taking a hiatus for the summer.  So stupid me asks her another question because I think it makes sense if I am calling two very busy people, that I know what I am asking them to calendar.

Please let me know what the topic is so when I call they know what I am trying to schedule.  Also, will 30 minutes be enough time?

I guess this pissed her off because how dare I ask for more information. She replies:

I have already had a discussion with them. They know what the topic is as does Bossman. The subject of the meeting is the Matter X. Please schedule the meeting.

I moved from the monitor because I was waiting for her hand to come out of the screen and slap me.  If she wanted some half assness she should have given the task to someone who would not ask any questions, such as Formerly Silent Co-Worker (you know her assistant) who seems to be back in silent mode.

This is reason #549849085904 I need a new job because I can’t take the stupid BS that these people are into.  Petty shit is that serious to them and I have had my limits.  I can see this making it onto my review as me being difficult to work with.  Yes that’s the kind of place I work for, it’s definitely time to go.
